The Why Now summary is the most important output WhiteWhale produces. Most signal tools send you one data point. WhiteWhale connects the dots between multiple signals and writes a two to three sentence story explaining why this account matters right now — and why you should reach out today rather than next quarter.

What the Why Now tells you

Click into any account and you’ll see three things: the Why Now summary, the underlying signals that informed it, and the sources those signals came from. The Why Now pulls from all active signals on the account — the facts, quotes, numbers, and dates — and synthesizes them into a coherent story. A good Why Now tells you what’s changing at the company, why that creates urgency, and what outcome they’re likely trying to achieve. In about two seconds, you should know whether this account is worth your time.

How to use it

Step 1: Read the Why Now first. Before digging into individual signals, read the summary. If the story doesn’t connect to what you sell, move on. If it does, go deeper. Step 2: Dig into the signals. The signals beneath the summary are the raw evidence — the job postings, press releases, earnings quotes, and website changes that built the story. Use these to get specific details you can reference in outreach. Step 3: Build your angle with AI. Once you know the story, use an AI tool to help you turn it into a pitch. Copy the Why Now and relevant signal details into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini and ask it to help you connect the account’s situation to what you sell. For example:
“Here’s what’s happening at this account: [paste Why Now]. We sell [product] that helps companies [outcome]. Help me write a two-sentence opener that connects their situation to our value prop.”
This is how the best teams on WhiteWhale are turning signal data into pipeline — not by sending generic outreach, but by leading with the specific story happening at the account right now.
The Why Now is only as strong as your signals. If the summary feels generic or off, it’s usually a sign that your signals need to be more specific to your ICP. See How to Get Unique Signal Ideas.
